Thumbs-up to the Victoria Ballet Theatre for offering showings of "The Nutcracker" to area school children every year as part of the production.

Thumbs-up to all the children who got into the holiday spirit by taking part in pageants and school programs this year.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Police Department for offering the free 11-week Civilian Police Academy program to help people understand what law enforcement personnel go through. We hope the program is well attended.

Thumbs-up to four-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Terry Bradshaw's plan to bring his stage production "Terry Bradshaw: America's Favorite Dumb Blonde ... A Life in Four Quarters" to Victoria in March.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria College's plan to buy a new projector for the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts in order to show movies there and support the Victoria TX Independent Film Festival.

Thumbs-up to Roy McLaurin for his creative way to make a snowman in South Texas using Freon and quarter-inch copper tubing.

Thumbs-up and welcome to Ivar "Skip" Gjolberg, the new chief executive officer at Cuero Community Hospital.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department for letting residents give input on new playground equipment through a Facebook poll.

Thumbs-up to Otto Bluntzer, of Goliad, for teaching blacksmithing to interested people at his forge.

Thumbs-up and congratulations to Senior Police Officer Herschel Buck for being named the Victoria Police Department's Officer of the Year.

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to the deaths and disappearances of four more barbado sheep belonging to Wayne and Karen Daggs in Calhoun County. This needs to stop and the parties responsible punished.
