Victoria College's faculty, staff and administration raised more than $18,000 in an employee giving campaign for the Victoria College Foundation.
The funds were raised during a one-week campaign known as the Pirate Cup. Employees' donations will help provide scholarship money for students and assist in supporting key programs at the college.
The VC Foundation introduced the Pirate Cup campaign as a part of its Tradition of Excellence annual giving campaign in the fall of 2010. Since its inception, the Pirate Cup has raised more than $78,000.
The Pirate Cup is a way for employees to support one another and the work the staff does for students, said Susan Prukop, VC Foundation development director.
"The employees were enthusiastic about the Pirate Cup," Prukop said. "All employees were assigned to a team with very motivating team captains encouraging their participation. This year, 20 team captains volunteered and are to be commended for their zeal in encouraging their team."
The top three team captains will display the Pirate Cup trophy in their offices throughout the year until the next campaign begins. The winning captains for this campaign were Career, Health and Technical Professions Dean Betsy Crane, Marketing and Communications Specialist Eric Jensen and Workforce and Continuing Education Director Sherri Pall.
In addition to the Pirate Cup, the VC Foundation recently began its Tradition of Excellence annual giving campaign, which encourages the community to support VC during the season of giving. A contribution to the campaign provides much-needed funds to the VC Foundation, which in turn allocates resources to the areas at VC with the greatest needs: student scholarships, facilities, faculty and staff grants, instructional programs, endowments and other college initiatives.
Since 1999, the VC Foundation has awarded close to $290,000 in faculty and staff grants and provided more than $360,000 in scholarships this year alone.
