City Corner: Library card is perfect accessory to Christmas e-reader
I'm thinking of giving my daughter an e-reader for Christmas. Does the Victoria Public Library offer downloadable e-books for Kindle? How many titles can be checked out at a time? How long can e-books be checked out?
Yes, The Victoria Public Library's e-book collection is compatible with the Amazon Kindle and the Kindle Tablet, plus almost every tablet, smart phone and e-reader on the market. Patrons can download popular and classic e-books to a Kindle device or any mobile device such as iPhone, iPad, Android and more. Simply visit southtexas.lib.overdrive.com to get started.
The library also offers e-books and audiobooks for use on a PC or Mac computer and popular mobile devices such as the smartphone, MP3 player and e-book readers like the Kindle, the Barnes and Noble Nook, the Sony Reader and devices from other manufacturers.
Kindle users can browse the library's collection of e-books from a PC or Mac computer, check out titles using a VPL library card (you will need your pin number) and select "Get Kindle" to deliver e-books to your Kindle device or any device running the free Kindle app. Users who enjoy e-books on Kindle will benefit from Amazon's Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights and bookmarks pages.
Titles from the e-book collection can be checked out for 21 days, and five e-book titles can be checked out at a time. There are never overdue books or late fees on e-books - titles automatically return to the library's collection after the checkout period ends. After 21 days, an e-book can be checked-out again if it's available.
