The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING DEC. 13

Tropics Waterfront Bar and Grill, 802 Fulton St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 24. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wear gloves when cutting ready-to-eat foods. Need soap and paper towels at hand sink. Address problem of presence of roaches and gnats. Label bleach bucket. Need thermometer in bar cooler. Clean the ice machine. Use the walk-in cooler No. 2 that is holding at 32 degrees while the other gets repaired. Five facility or equipment violations.

El Charrito Express No. 2, 623 Broadway St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 20. Wash hands properly with soap for at least 20 seconds. Work on date-labeling. Need soap and paper towels at the hand sink. Fix leak at the three-compartment sink. Do not use thank you bags to store food directly in. Post last inspection. Four facility or equipment violations.

Farmers Bar and Grill, 6545 Farm-to-Market Road 1686, Inez. Demerits: 15. Improper cold-hold temperature. Discard potentially hazardous foods in refrigerator over 41 degrees for more than four hours. Need to get a water sample. Use the hand sink for hand-washing only. Repair the leak under the sink. The hand sink is not draining well. Two facility or equipment violations.

Speedy Stop No. 30, 5906 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 14. The large ice bags need labels. Need use-by dates on bean burritos in cooler. Keep time of food not holding at 135 degrees. Keep soap and paper towels by the drink area. Post the 2013 permit. Two facility or equipment violations.

Whistle Stop, 8501 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 9. Keep paper towels at the hand sink. Clean the ice machine. Post the 2013 permit. Three facility or equipment violations.

Times Market No. 101, 630 N. Virginia St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 8. Ice bags need more detailed labels on them. Popcorn bags cannot be sold individually.

7 Eleven No. 36525, 5684 U.S. Highway 77 South, Victoria. Demerits: 7. Keep time on food not holding at 135 degrees in the warmer. Repair the paper towel dispenser. One facility or equipment violation.

Dollar General No. 3477, 2215 Lone Tree Road, Victoria. Demerits: 7. Dispose of outdated milk and dented cans. Post the current permit. One facility or equipment violation.

P.A.G.A. Lounge, 1205 E. North St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Post the dish-washing procedure on how dishes must be washed. Label spray bottles. One facility or equipment violation.

Art's Fish House, 711 S. state Highway 35 Bypass, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 4. Wash hands after touching door and before putting on gloves.

McDonald's, 801 S. state Highway 35 Bypass, Port Lavaca; Chaparral Market, 701 Blyth St., Victoria; Subway No. 1, 8701 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 3.

REINSPECTIONS

Gonzalez Community Store, 5065 Farm-to-Market Road 616, Placedo, inspected Dec. 2 with 22 demerits. Reinspected Dec. 10 with the cooler corrected. Still need ingredient labels on packaged food. Keep hand sink open at all times. Must follow the three cleaning steps: wash, rinse and sanitize. Need to repair the leak under the two-compartment sink. Will be repairing this weekend.

Lord's Little Angels, 605 U.S. Highway 77-A, Yoakum, inspected Dec. 2 with 5 demerits. Reinspected Dec. 6 with the cold-hold violation corrected.
