The Victoria County Czech Heritage Society members met Dec. 5 at Holy Family Church St. Peter Parish Hall for the annual Christmas party/appreciation dinner. The evening started with a social at 6 p.m. President Stephanie Higdon welcomed everyone at 6:45 p.m., thanked those who helped with preparations and recognized guests. Monsignor Joseph Hybner then led us in a prayer before the meal. All then enjoyed the catered meal, prepared by Mike Pozzi, and a wide array of desserts brought by members.

After the meal, Higdon called the roll of officers with all being present. Secretary Carol Janak read the minutes of the October Festival wrap-up meeting. Treasurer Ed Nevlud then gave a treasurer's report. Sunshine chairperson Dorris Raska reported sending a sympathy card to David Pribyl for the loss of his stepmother.

Higdon then asked members if they would want to make a donation to the Polka Works project, "Texas Czechs - Rooted in Texas." Simone Tipton made a motion that the society donate $1,000 to the project. MaryKay Janssen seconded, and the motion passed.

Higdon then reminded members to pay their dues. Higdon then recognized Simone Tipton whose term as director has expired but who has also accepted another term as the new three-year director. Door prizes were then given out, and the meeting was adjourned.
