Victoria County Genealogical Society holds meeting
The Victoria County Genealogical Society met Dec. 9 for a Christmas social. The tables were decorated with red and green table coverings, candles and small green trees placed in the centers. A meal of tamales, chili, beans, chips and cheese dip with peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert was served to about 45 members by the hospitality host, Charlene Newton, and her helpers. After the meal, Christmas carols were sung, and a Santa quiz was given. Members told what they remembered that made Christmas special when they were young.
Appreciation certificates were given to Patricia Patterson, for sitting in and helping board members who had to miss meetings, and to Lacy Newton, for always coming in and helping to set up the room for the meeting and staying to put everything back into place when the meetings were over.
The officers were reelected, and a new officer was installed by the president, Kenneth Booth.
Doris Obsta is the program chairwoman for the next two years and gave a report on the programs that she has for each month for 2014.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 2015 N. Ben Jordan St. Members are encouraged to attend. Visitors are welcome. The 2014 dues are due now. If you have questions, call Louise Browning at 361-782-217 or Kenneth Booth at 361-575-7584.
