Lady Bulldogs win Lady Flyer Classic

Yoakum's Latrice Brown and Desiree Garza each exploded for 20 or more points in Saturday's championship game of the Lady Flyer Classic.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated host school St. Joseph 66-38 in the final game of the tournament.

Brown scored a game-high 23 points and Garza, who was later named the MVP of the tournament, had 20.

The Lady Flyers' offense was unable to take off, scoring just 12 points in the first half.

Kristi Hempel led St. Joseph with 12 points and Kensey Marshal had 9, all of which came from behind the three-point line.

Faith Academy took third place with a 45-29 victory over Flatonia, and Ganado won the consolation bracket 48-24 over Corpus Christi John Paul.

Earlier Saturday, the two Victoria schools faced off with St. Joseph coming out on top 53-36 over Faith. Iris Young scored 16 for the Lady Flyers, and Courtne Grevey had 18 for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Flyers placed two on the all-tournament team, Marshal and Christine Janak. Also on the all-tournament team were Cuero's Martina Stavinoha, Faith's Grevey and Yoakum's Jaccarri Hights.
