West girls play alumni in quick turnaround

The Victoria West girls would have gone without a game Monday had it not been for Facebook.

After a scheduling conflict with the Corpus Christi King Mustangs, the Lady Warriors were without an opponent.

Since many former Victoria ISD athletes are in town for the holidays, an alumni team was set up via Facebook messages online.

The Lady Warriors (17-4, 3-0 district) beat the alumni team 62-42 in the West gym.

West coach Debbie Brownson said that 12 alumni players from East, West and Memorial suited out for the game.

Former Memorial player Chelsea Foy scored seven points and one 3-pointer. She is now a coach and teacher at Cade Middle School in Victoria.

West's Tiana Davila scored 17 points and one 3-pointer. Mercedes Ellison scored 16 points and Allyson DLoughy scored 10 points and two 3-pointers.

West's next game will be at home against Calallen on Friday at 8 p.m.
