Headline of story was in poor taste
Editor, the Advocate:
The Victoria Advocate has once again shown to me just how much the media truly is a mirror image of the thoughtless, heartless society it caters to. The front page headline of the Dec. 28 edition of the Advocate really drove home just how low the media will stoop to make a dollar.
Was it really necessary to sprawl across the top of the front page "Father runs over son; 8-year-old dies"? My 11-year-old son read the headline and the story, and the first thing he said to me was, "Dad, that's just sorry to put that for a title to this story. They could have been more sensitive to their feelings than that."
A writer can simultaneously be creative and sensitive. My 13-year-old son proved that when he suggested the headline could have read, "Tragic accident claims life of 8-year-old boy." Maybe that's just not intriguing enough for the society we live in today. You people are unbelievable.
