BEEVILLE

Jan. 25

Cattle on hand: 305

Horses: 13

Trends: Steers and heifers, steady.

Steers: (200-300) $135-$200; (300-400) $146-$207; (400-500) $132-$188; (500-600) $114-$156; (600-700) $104-$141; and (700-800) $96-$125.

Heifers: (200-300) $120-$170; (300-400) $114-$225; (400-500) $113-$180; (500-600) $113-$190; (600-700) $96-$126; and (700-800) $89-$113.

Slaughter cows: $40-$80; slaughter bulls, $50-$92.50; stocker cows, $66-$104 bred cows, $900-$1,090; pairs, $700-$1,390; horses, $25-$250.

CUERO

Receipts: 728

Had 115 cows and 12 bulls. The packer market was fully steady to a little stronger on some classes. Had a short supply and, as a result, not much real indication of overall market. Market appeared to be very solid on those sold.

The calf market was stronger throughout, with the thinner calves showing the largest gain of $3-$5/cwt. Almost all individual highs were more than $8/cwt higher with averages increasing at least $2-$3/cwt. Was a very active and strong demand in all classes. The shorter run of cattle was missing some numbers in some classes but what was sold was high.

Packer bulls: Heavy weights, $85-$100; lower grades, $67-$80.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$72; boning cows, $65-$78; canners and cutters, $62-$85; light and weak, $55-$65.

Palpated dry cows and bred cows (43, sold well): $88-$113; high dollar deal brought $1,234 each; pairs: none.

Steer calves: (under 200) none; (200-250) one at $224; (250-300) $206-$210; (300-350) $196-$226;(350-400) $186-$211; (400-450) $173-$214; (450-500) $171-$195; (500-600) $164-$174; (550-600) $142-$160;(600-700) $144-$148; (700-800) $127-$128.

Compared to last week: The market was a little stronger this week. Better quality classes of calves and yearlings sold mostly $2 to $4 higher. Demand continues to be very strong in all areas.

Packer cows and bulls sold near steady on approximately 120 head total. No high dressing cows or bulls on hand; flesh condition a little thinner.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $72-$85; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $61-$72; light weight canner cows, $50-$61.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $93-$98.50; utility and cutter bulls, $84-$93; light weight canner bulls, $77-$84.
