A tractor-trailer hauling crude oil overturned early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 59 near Devereux Gardens.
About 1:50 a.m., a 2011 Peterbilt driven by Clint Soyt, 41, of Edna, was traveling north on the highway when it drifted into the median, said Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.
"The driver overcorrected to the right, and the truck flipped once and came to rest in the median," Bryant said. "The driver was pinned inside the vehicle for a while."
Victoria Fire Department Emergency Medical Services took Soyt by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center. As of Monday afternoon, he was listed in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Bryant said about 55 gallons of crude oil dripped out of the tanker but was contained to the crash scene.
One lane in each direction was closed for several hours, but the highway was never completely closed, Bryant said.
Trooper Ronald Johnson is investigating the crash.
