Musical performances, festivals, and hanging with friends from all over the Crossroads will be part of Saturday's Black History Month parade and festival.

Hosted by the Victoria Black History Steering Committee, the parade and festival will be in its 26th year, said president of the committee James Murphy.

Murphy noted that while Saturday's events are in recognition of Black History Month, that doesn't mean only blacks can attend.

"The festival is for Victoria itself," he said. "The event is for everyone."

Sherilyn Shelton, committee member, said her reason for remaining involved in the festival is the chance to meet new people. She hopes this weekend, others will do the same.

"People attending can see the different types of performers, showing their spirit of freedom and cultural diversity," Shelton said. "We're celebrating freedom."
