LSU-Shreveport completes series sweep of Jaguars
SHREVEPORT, La. - UHV managed only a combined six hits and lost both games of a doubleheader against LSU-Shreveport on Saturday at Pilots Field.
The Pilots (4-2) won the first game 3-0 and claimed a 3-2 decision in the second game.
The Jaguars (2-3) were swept in the three-game series and the teams will meet again in a doubleheader Tuesday at Riverside Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
Rory Young pitched a one-hitter for LSU-Shreveport in the first game, yielding only a second-inning single by Stephen Shorkey.
Kyle Pearson hit a three-run home run in the first inning off of UHV starter Nick Huff, who gave up only five hits and had five strikeouts.
The Pilots scored their 10th first-inning run of the series against UHV starter Cory Carter in the second game and added two more runs in the second.
The Jaguars snapped a 10-inning scoreless drought in the fourth on a single by Chad Kruse, a double by Corti Wilson and a sacrifice fly by Josh Boothe.
UHV pulled within a run when Matt Herrera singled and pinch runner Nathan Falkenstine moved to third on walks by Dylan Blaha and Shorkey. Falkenstine scored on an errant pickoff attempt by pitcher Riley Spencer.
The Jaguars reloaded the bases when Tyler Steiner walked, but closer Ben Suit came on to retire Kruse on a groundout to second base.
