Victoria man indicted on murder charge in November shooting death
A 24-year-old man was indicted on murder charges Thursday.
Christopher Salazar, also known as "Sally," faces the first-degree felony charge after officials say he got into an argument with the victim, Johnny Ray Salazar, no relation, about synthetic marijuana.
Johnny Salazar, 31, of Victoria, was shot one time in the chest in the 500 block of East South Street about 8 p.m. Nov. 13, according to earlier reports.
Victoria Police arrested Christopher Salazar on Nov. 14. That same day, a search warrant was executed at his home in the 500 block of East South Street to look for evidence of the crime.
Police would not release what that search revealed Monday.
Criminal District Attorney Stephen Tyler said both Salazars were members of different gangs - one a street gang and the other a prison gang. But Tyler did not believe this crime was necessarily gang related.
Christopher Salazar's attorney, Micah Hatley, could not be reached for comment.
A jury trial is set for May 1 before 377th District Judge Robert C. Cheshire.
If Christopher Salazar is found guilty, he could face anywhere from five to 99 years or life in prison. A $10,000 fine could also be assessed.
