Gidgett G. Reynolds paints the nails of Eunice Boyd, 78, of Victoria, at the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center on Murray Street. Reynolds was painting the nails of the ladies in honor of the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. "I enjoy visiting with the seniors and seeing them. This way they have something special for Valentine's Day."

Gidgett G. Reynolds bustled in with a bag full of nail polish in various bright hues Monday to prepare the ladies at the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center on Murray Street for Valentine's Day.

As she pulled out each bottle, whether it was deep vermilion or soft pastel pink, the gathered women looked on with excitement.

They filled the chairs along the wall as they arrived and checked the list to see whether their name was first or eighth.

"I'm staying until everyone is done. Don't worry," Reynolds called out reassuringly.

Reynolds works for the Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center but likes to visit the seniors at the Victoria center to call out bingo or, in this case, give their nails a little pep for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

"I enjoy visiting with the seniors and seeing them have something special for the holiday," Reynolds said.

Natalie Gilbert, the first in line to get her nails done, picked a glittery red.

"I thought it sounded like fun, and I wanted to get my nails touched up a bit," Gilbert said.

Eunice Boyd, 78, of Victoria, said she hopes to go out to a nice dinner with her granddaughter on Valentine's Day. She had her nails painted because, she said, it's hard to do them herself at her age.

As Reynolds painted nails and chatted with each woman, smiles broke out on every face as their nails turned red and pink by turn.

"Everyone deserves to look nice for Valentine's Day," Reynolds said.
