Miller smashes pins for top spot at Sundowner competition

Shawn Miller earned the top spot for the week once again, and it is an accomplishment that he is beginning to enjoy.

Miller started Sundowner competition with a tremendous 278 high game and then followed with games of 225 and 226 to total 729 for the night.

Mike Stacy was near the top as usual with two great sets of 706 and 263-698 in two leagues.

Mike Osterson also broke the 700 mark with a 258 high game contributing towards a 704 series.

Other scores of note for the men were Steve Zeplin (267-699), Mark Hernandez (268-697), Rick Kalmus (692), Danny Reissig (687), Steve Dickinson (686/657/652), Glen Pitts (255-685), Jacob Silgero (275-670/255-666), Abel Garcia (669), David Flores (666), Chris Kurtz (665/258), Gary Hatter Sr. (260-663), Joey Matson (253-661), Joey Matson (253-661), Michael Conchola (660), Mark Pahmiyer (267), Rene Silgero (253).

Lynda Mikulec was on target again with a great score during Sugar & Spice League play.

Mikulec produced games of 235, 212 and 224 to total 671 for the women's weekly high score.

Olivia Jackson broke the 600 mark also with a 227 high game contributing towards a 614 set.

Other nice scores for the women were Christine Speer (223-587), Morgan Matula (575), and Carolyn Danesi (575).

Vera Cruz bowlers for the week were Mark Hernandez with 766 (Sundowners) and Lynda Mikulec with 713 (Sugar & Spice).

Congratulations to Dorothy Moore who reached the age of 91 last week and rolled a 458 series (153 average) the day before her birthday.

The entry deadline for the Victoria USBC Open City Tournament is Friday at midnight. Entry forms are available at the bowling houses or can be downloaded from the victoriausbc.com website.

The USBC Masters tournament will be televised Sunday on ESPN at 2:00 time. This will be bowling's second major tournament of the season. With this tournament open to any USBC member, you never know when an unknown bowler will make it to the finals.
