  • ""Quite frankly, what we want to do is make our businesses successful and create more business in this community," Rivera said." I find that to be a racist comment. I feel oppressed by that comment. If it's open to everyone, why call it the Hispanic Chamber? Why is racism still accepted and promoted?

How about this gem? ""It's like having private schools and public schools," he said. "It's the same concept."" Yeah, private schools for Hispanic or African American only or primarily? I thought we de-segregated. Why don't we de-segregate fully? No more benefits based on race. No more chamber's of commerce for every color of person.

""It's someone to speak for us," she said. "I think it's good."" -- Speak for who? Small business owners? Americans? Citizens of Victoria? Are we so fixed on race to group ourselves or others into categories based on skin color or ancestors? Aren't we all Americans? MLKjr did not have THIS in mind.

"Lew's Barber Shop, the business he operated on Village Drive, saw new customers as African-American chamber members patronized the business and spread word about the shop." -- Race based (i.e. Racist) chambers of commerce exist for one purpose, to appeal the consumers who still hold on to racism in this modern age. They promote it.

If my small business could either prosper with racist customers or struggle/fail without them - give me the struggle.

  • How absurd. Why don't we add another......a caucasian chamber of commerce. That way, we all can be racist and choose to only do business with "Like People". And the regular Chamber can be for those who could care less.
