In the opening day of filing for District 3 Victoria City Council, two contenders claimed places on the ballot.
John Hyak, 53, and Jeff Bauknight, 43, will run May 11 for the seat vacated by mayoral candidate Paul Polasek.
Hyak, who ran last May against Polasek, said his interest has always been to forward Victoria's growth and development.
"My goals are the same," Hyak, a lifelong Victoria resident, said.
He said he wants to ensure the city is kept safe, parks and recreational activities are provided and the city attains the highest level of services all while maintaining a reasonable tax rate.
"I know I can do the job, there's no question in my mind," Hyak said.
Hyak is a department manager at Formosa Utility Venture and a member of the planning commission.
Bauknight said in a news release he received overwhelming support from friends and family members to seek election.
He said he wants to ensure his children's experience growing up in Victoria is as enjoyable as his was.
He founded and is president of Crossroads Mechanical Inc., a mechanical contracting business. He serves on the planning commission and the building board of adjustments and appeals.
He has volunteered with the Victoria YMCA, Rotary Club, Victoria Symphony, Association of Builders and Contractors, Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the Nazareth Academy Advisory Council.
