Two West wrestlers still going at meet

AUSTIN - A pair of Victoria West wrestlers are still alive after the first day, with John Garcia winning his opener and Austin Supak still going in the third round of the consolation bracket of the girl's draw after Thursday's opening rounds of the state wrestling meet.
Garcia won his opening round match in the 120-pound weight class over McKinney North's Will Harcrow on points, 8-0. He will face Frisco Lone Star's Quinn Redmond on Friday.
Supak won her first round bout before falling in the second round of the girl's 128-pound weight class bracket. She bounced back to pin Summer Creek's Destiny Wilbert. She wrestles again Friday.
East's Josh Morales is still alive but lost his opener in the 138-pound weight class. He was pinned at 1:58 of the match against Frisco Wakeland's Sean Roche and will face an elimination match with Humble Summer Creek's Dale Battle on Friday.
West's Kristen Reed won a match in her weight class but lost her opener and her third match of the day and was eliminated.
Beeville's Rogelio Salazar won his opener in the 113-pound weight class over College Station's Tell Ward by points, 16-3. Also for Beeville, Danielle Perez is into the third round after advancing on a forfeit in the first round and pin in the 102-pound weight class.
Beeville's Brent Riga lost his opener in the 195-pound weight class, as did Beeville's Cordell Aguirre in the 145-pound class. Both face elimination matches in the consolation bracket Friday.
