A Beaumont man died when the truck-tractor he was driving rolled over in the median of state Highway 185 near Guadalupe Road on Monday.
Traffic on state Highway 185 was diverted at U.S. Highway 59 and Farm-to-Market Road 1686.
By early evening, the highway was re-opened, officials said.
Robert McCann, 27, was trapped in the truck, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Spokesman Gerald Bryant.
He was hauling 175 barrels of crude oil from Shiner to the Port of Victoria when he swerved into the median, overcorrected and rolled over at about 12:20 p.m., Bryant said.
Some of the oil leaked but was cleaned up, said Assistant Fire Chief Tracy Fox. The oil was transferred to a second tanker. A hazardous material team from the city of Victoria was on scene to make sure everything was safe, Fox added.
Victoria and Bloomington school districts notified parents of the wreck and explained the student pick-up process and bus routes affected.
The White International tractor-trailer McCann was driving belonged to Gulfmark Energy in Houston. Gulfmark Energy did not return the Advocate's phone call seeking comment.
