Victoria County Commissioners will continue deliberating Tuesday about whom to appoint as the new county court at law judge.
They recessed Monday once the five finalists - Travis Ernst, Joyce Heller, Constance Filley Johnson, Lidia Serrata and Edward Wilkinson - completed a second round of interviews during closed session.
After the nearly three-hour interview process, County Judge Don Pozzi said, "I think all of you know, especially the candidates, that we have a very, very difficult decision to make."
He did not say whether the court would have a definite decision by Tuesday. The meeting picks back up at 1 p.m. in the county courthouse, 115 N. Bridge St.
"I would say that it's likely, but I don't know," he said. "Any of these individuals ... would make an excellent county court at law judge."
Commissioners returned to closed session around 4 p.m. to continue their discussion.
The opening is for the County Court at Law No. 1 position currently held by Judge Laura Weiser.
Weiser is retiring Thursday to join a nonprofit legal group in Austin.
The appointment will be for Weiser's unexpired term, which runs through November 2014.
County Auditor Judy McAdams said the salary for the position is $139,000.
