A home in Yoakum was severely damaged by fire, but no one was injured, Yoakum Fire Chief Mark Herchek said Friday.

The home, owned by Alberto Mariscal, in the 200 block of Mathew Street, was reported on fire at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Herchek said.

The fire took about an hour to get under control.

The family was home when the fire started, but escaped safely.

He said the fire began in a wall furnace and burned through the ceiling into the attic of the wood-frame home.

Linda May, emergency services director of the American Red Cross Crossroads Chapter, said they provided emergency assistance to the family.
