Happy New Year from all of us at the Victoria Art League. We hope all of you had a very merry Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.
We want to thank all of you for your patronage and support of the Art League during 2012 and look forward to you partnering with us in 2013.
Hope you saw our billboards about our Christmas Bazaar, and many of you were able to come down to see some of our wonderful art items.
We are still trying to get the word out about our wonderful organization and not remain one of the "best kept secrets in Victoria."
We hope you check our web page, victoriaartleague.net, or the Victoria Art League on Facebook to keep abreast of all our activities.
This column that is in the Advocate the first Sunday of each month can also be used for information. All of us at the Victoria Art League want our community to know about and participate in our workshops and classes throughout the year.
On this note, we will be starting three new classes in January.
Sonny Timme will start his classes again. He will teach basics of composition, values form and color mixing for beginners, and he will coach other students who already have some experience at the same time from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday night class from or from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Timme has many years of painting and teaching experience and can teach you a lot, whether you are just beginning or are experienced already and want to get better. Contact him now for more information at 361-578-8722.
Jim Feig will resume teaching beginner photography, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays evening and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays starting in mid-January. Call him at 361-576-0578 or 361-649-8738.
I will teach two beginners pottery classes Mondays or Tuesdays. I have not decided which day, so you can let me know which you prefer when you call. I will also be teaching two classes for those with pottery experience on Thursdays. Classes will start the last week in January with an afternoon 1 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. class from which to choose. Call me at 361-575-3216 or 361-649-8309.
Michele Evans continues to teach her children's classes during from 4 -5 p.m. Wednesday with pottery. Call her at 361-649-8092 for more information.
Eunice Collins and Ronnie Chambers will continue their ever popular "Painting the Town" classes and would love for you to get involved.
My wife, Susan, took that class this past month and was so proud of her Christmas bluebird.
In fact, she hung it right when she got home. Of course, I am the supportive husband and gave her positive feedback - actually, it was pretty good considering she is the musician, and I am the artist.
Collins is heading up these sessions, and Chambers is the instructor. They are staying very busy. She has organized one or two of these classes each week since she started them about six weeks ago. Businesses and other groups are using the social painting gatherings to get the people together to have some fun doing art.
This is a chance for people with no art experience to purchase a canvas with the subject already drawn and create a piece of art by following the instructor's lead.
Refreshments are provided, so just have fun. Call Collins at 361-576-4043 for more information.
We will have a special tribute to the late Gloria Dorris and feature her artwork as our artist of the month. Dorris was a multitalented and strong supporter of the arts in Victoria for many years.
You can come down to view her work from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, starting Wednesday, with a reception at 2 p.m. and our regular meeting at 2:30 p.m. with a demonstration by photographer Feig.
Once again, we hope you have a blessed and happy New Year and look forward to seeing you at the Victoria Art League.
