• Approved official bond for Victoria County Sheriff
• Approved $1.64 million payment to the county's debt service
• Approved $30,789 payment to Robert Adkins Masonry for the Bridge Street Annex repairs
Appropriations to seven Victoria County agencies peaked at $1.5 million for 2013, with 93 percent going to the city.
The commissioners court distributed $1.4 million for fire, rescue and emergency services provided by the Victoria Fire Department. Other appropriations went to mental services, senior citizens' events, historical preservation, soil and water conservation, economic development and volunteer fire departments.
County Judge Don Pozzi said each allotment provides an important service to the county.
"All of these have been budgeted in the 2013 budget," he said. "Each in their own way are a great benefit to the community."
Behind the city, Gulf Bend Center received the second largest sum, at $50,000.
Pozzi said this is the amount that has been committed for several years. He said the county has to be prudent with how it spends taxpayers' dollars.
"Certainly, it does not cover near the amount of work and expense that these individuals do on behalf of Victoria County, but again, we appreciate their efforts," Pozzi said. "We wish it could be more."
Victoria Economic Development Corporation was given a $20,000 allocation, while the volunteer fire departments and associations received $11,000.
VEDC President Dale Fowler thanked the court for their support of job development and "continued involvement and interest in economic development."
The senior citizens center received $10,000, and the historical commission received $2,000. Victoria Soil and Water Conservation received a $1,500 allotment.
Commissioner Kevin Janak made the motion to approve the expenditures, and Commissioner Danny Garcia, joining in for his second meeting of his term, seconded the motion.
Garcia thanked each organization for its contributions and volunteerism.
