Larry Hall opened Sugar & Spice competition with a 233 game, but then with a couple of open frames in the second game, dropped to a 189 game.

He didn't know where his series was heading.

Fortunately, he regained his rhythm and started the last game with 10 strikes before a split on the 11th ball stopped his bid for a perfect game. The 287 game, which may be a career high, helped Hall towards a 709 series and the only 700 for the week.

Steve Zeplin enjoyed two good nights on the lane with sets of 258-698 in the Red River League and 250-681 in another league.

Other scores of note for the men were Dave Matthews (257-687), DoLee Knowlan (279-682), Todd Pfuhl (268-682), Rick Kalmus (671), Korey Bryan (662), Mike Stacy (661/653), Glenn Mason (660/651), Randy Morris (658), Dandy Richards (280-657), Lee Caballero (267-655), Bruce Hammack (653), John Figueroa (648), Jacob Silgero (279), Craig Hoff (259), John Blaylock (257), Tim Campbell (249), and senior bowler Wayne Conaway (248).

Christine Speer rocked the Monday Mixed League with scores of 232, 192, and 202 for a 626 set and high for the women.

Denise Gabrysch blasted the pins for a great 247 high game on her way to a 609 total.

Also breaking the 600 mark was Bailey Koebrick with a 233-603.

Pat Robles with a 224-593 and Trudy Wortham with 224-584 also scored well.

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers for the week were Larry Hall 748 and Nora Molina 700, both from the Sugar & Spice League.

A reminder that the Texas State Open and Women's USBC State Tournament entry deadline is approaching.

The entry deadline for the Open, which is being held in San Antonio, is February 15.

The women's state will be in the Houston area and the entry deadline is March 15.

Almost two years ago, PBA bowler Tom Daugherty, made his first Finals TV appearance.

I am sure that the audience across the country felt sorry for him as his ball reaction continued to leave him split after split. He finished the game with a score of an even 100.

His second time on TV, he redeemed himself by winning the Bowlers Journal PBA Scorpion Championship.

He moved up the step ladder finals be defeating Jason Sterner, 199-177, Jason Belmonte 256-187, and the top seed Osku Palerma 200-182, for his first PBA title.

As Daugherty, commented, not only will I be known as the PBA bowler who bowled a 100 game on national TV, but also a PBA Title winner.

Next week ESPN will broadcast the first Major PBA Tournament of the year when the PBA World championship will be broadcast at noon.

The five step-ladder finalists will be Parker Bohn III, Dan MacLelland, Rhino Page, Sean Rash, and Jason Belmonte.
