St. Joseph High School student awarded semifinalist scholarship

Marlena Gutierrez, a senior as St. Joseph High School, has been awarded a Semifinalist Scholarship from Fordham University in New York, N.Y.
The scholarship is an annual, full tuition stipend for each year of undergraduate study.
Students are awarded the scholarship based on outstanding academic records and being named semifinalists in the National Merit, National Achievement or National Hispanic recognition competitions.
Marlena was recognized by the National Hispanic Merit Scholarship Program earlier this fall.
At St. Joseph High School, she serves as Student Council Parliamentarian and a Student Ambassador.
She is also active in speech and debate.
She would like to major in English and attend law school in the future.
Marlena is the daughter of Jill Heard and Ruben Gutierrez.
