The Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition and groups from all over the state of Texas are organizing Senior Day at the Capitol with the theme, "Seniors - the Heart of Texas."

Senior Day will be Feb. 12.

It is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions older adults have made and will continue to make to the state of Texas.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a rally on the front steps of the Capitol. Elected officials and leaders in the aging network will speak.

After the rally, attendees will visit with their elected officials on issues they are concerned about. It is hoped that the emphasis will be on programs and services for older adults.

Area groups and individuals will need to organize their own transportation, pack a lunch or have lunch in the Capitol cafeteria or a nearby restaurant.

If you cannot attend, please write letters Feb. 12 and fax the letters to your state senator and the lieutenant governor at 512-463-0326 and your state representative and the speaker of the house at 512-463-5896.

For the outline of a successful Senior Day trip and information to help in planning your the trip (issues, maps, etc.), visit the Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition website or contact David Thomason at 512-467-2242 or Lynda Ender at 214-823-5700, ext. 6113, or lender@theseniorsource.org.
