The zoo is preparing for its Native American Cultural Event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The zoo expects to have close to 2,000 visitors by the day's end, said Nathan Palmer, program manager.

"I think it's been received well," Palmer said of last's year's inaugural event.

The event features some Native American powwows and a tomahawk throwing presentation. Zoo personnel will also speak about red wolves, owls and other animals.

Arts and crafts, as well as other Native American items, will be available for purchase.
