Check out the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent Sweetheart Charity Ball, scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Spring Creek Place Event Center, 12116 Nursery Drive.
The third annual event will feature music by the Fabulous Rick Perkins Band as well as dinner, a silent auction and a complementary photograph.
"This event helps the Food Bank fulfill our mission of helping heal the hurt of hunger in our 11-county service area," said Robin Cadle, Food Bank executive director.
"Partnering with more than 100 agencies and with funding from this event, we are able to continue providing food monthly to more than 20,000 people which includes not only adults but children and seniors."
Individual tickets are $60, and sponsorships begin at $750 for a table of eight and an advertisement in the official program.
Auction items are also needed.
LuAnn O'Connor is the event co-chairwoman, and Michael O'Connor is the event co-chairman. Gary Moses will be the master of ceremonies.
Last year's event raised $24,500, according to a news release from the Food Bank.
The Food Bank began operating in Victoria in 1986. The Community Food Bank of Victoria became a certified affiliate of America's Second Harvest in 2000 and a member of the Texas Food Bank Network, a state association of 19 food banks.
Today, the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent is the support system in a 9,963-square-mile service area which includes Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio, Wharton and Victoria counties.
The Food Bank is also serving 1,000 children in its Kids BackPack Program. It also operates mobile food pantries to reach rural communities where there are no agencies to serve at-risk populations.
The Food Bank has a staff of eight full-time and three part-time workers and 130 active volunteers.
