1. What made you decide to serve the district? Why do you serve now?
Education in Victoria is special to me. I graduated from Stroman High School in 1973 and began my teaching career with the Victoria school district in 1977. I taught elementary, middle school and high school mathematics and computer science. I am currently a professor at the University of Houston-Victoria and have been there since 1991. It is my privilege to serve the Victoria community on the VISD Board of Trustees.
2. What is your most memorable time as a board member? Why was it so memorable?
The community passing the $59 million bond was the highlight of my serving on the board. The two new high schools, middle school, two elementary schools, natatorium and fine arts center are assets for VISD, the community and especially for our youth. Taking part in naming the new schools after respected VISD educators (Cade, Schorlemmer and Torres) was special to me because I worked with them.
