Port Lavaca native dies in plane crash in Oklahoma

A Port Lavaca native died Saturday in a plane crash in Oklahoma, officials confirmed Sunday.

John C. Hall, 45, was a passenger in a 1964 Beechcraft Baron fixed-wing, twin engine that crashed at 5:10 p.m. five miles west of State Highway 34 in Greer County.

He, pilot Stephen Scott, 53, of Magnum, Okla., and passenger Edi Ortega, 20, of Altus, Okla., were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a crash report.

Witnesses said the plane was flying north and appeared to have engine trouble before impact.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.

Hall's sister, Linda Darilek, said he worked for Boeing, was a world traveler and had an military career that lasted about 20 years.
