City has closed streets for school safety before

Editor, the Advocate:

I wish to inform our mayor and city council members that in past years, the city of Victoria considered the safety of its students their top priority. Therefore, they gifted the closing of the street between the two buildings of the Juan Linn School. Later, they also gifted the closing of the street around the William Offer School. Also, they gifted the closing of the street between the Stanly School building and the children's playground.

The mere inconvenience of going around a city block didn't seem to bother the good neighbors who considered the safety of school students a necessity.

Incidentally, I know an insurance agency who has a salesman who will gladly sell a policy to those neighbors who want to avoid a lawsuit for the possibility of hitting a student crossing to classes between the two school buildings on North De Leon Street.

I say, "God bless" all the good citizens of Victoria who drive safely around our Victoria schools. Amen!
