Australian designer Kim Barton sets fashion forward trends with an intuition for setting the bar before it is even seen in other labels or brands. This season's designs include an asymmetrical scalloped skirt and an elegant blouse with a crisscross neck wrap.
This is exactly what caught my eye to make me pursue this label. I first saw Kim Barton featured on the runway at Perth Fashion Festival this fall and realized that she has what it takes to possibly be the next Kate Spade or a label launch that will carry out through the U.S.
The branding is there, the talent is there, but it's what the label holds true to - that it can be worn well on a fashion forward woman who is confident in what she wears. Let me introduce you to Australian designer, Kim Barton.
The inspiration for the newest collection is "Untitled She War," Barton explains. "I drew inspiration from strong female archetypes to name a few Joan of Arc and Aphrodite."
When I asked Barton what female she sees wearing this new collection, she says she envisions the Kim Barton girl as "confident, youthful and independent, and that is exactly the type of woman I want to see wearing this particular collection."
In explaining her outreach and experience with the U.S., she has already had ties into New York with her Denim Label Maise.
"I can remember what a massive accomplishment it was at the time. I think my current Kim Barton label would suit the U.S. market very well. Although our countries are on the opposite ends of the globe, I think that Americans and Australians tend to have the most similarities in fashion and in styling," she said.
Kim Barton will be sure to take off this upcoming year and hopefully carry over to the U.S. for Americans to experience this fashion forward label.
"I think that 2013 will be a very exciting year for Kim Barton. I'm looking forward to the debut of the next collection to go out in March for AW13. I have so many wacky ideas. I just can't wait to see the finished product," she said.
