Warriors gain ground in district

Victoria West gained ground on Calallen in the district standings Tuesday night with a 39-35 victory.
James Murphy and Akeem Green both led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points each. Darian Henry also had eight on the night.
Calallen held a slim, 18-16 lead at halftime. Dylan Vaughn led Calallen with 11 points.
West improved to 15-13 overall and 5-4 in district play. They travel to Tuloso-Midway on Friday.
ST. JOSEPH 56, CC INCARNATE WORD 44
Cody Janak scored 24 points for St. Joseph and the Flyers cruised to their second district victory Tuesday night with a 56-44 point victory over Corpus Christi Incarnate Word.
Janak scored the first points of the game and got the home crowd into the game. The Flyers used that spark to hold onto a 27-23 lead at halftime.
Adam Konarik finished the night with 10 points and Barclay Proctor had six, including one 3-pointer.
St. Joseph improved to 14-13 overall and 2-3 in district play with the victory.
CC JOHN PAUL 57, EAST 54
CORPUS CHRISTI - In what turned out to be a battle down to the wire, John Paul couldn't slow down East's Xavier Ellis, and East couldn't slow down John Paul's Markus Williams, but it was the Titans who left Corpus Christi with a 57-54 loss.
Ellis finished his night with 24 points. Williams exploded for 28 points and six three-pointers in the victory Tuesday night.
East led John Paul 31-28 at halftime.
Trevon Ramey was second for East in points with 12 and Christian Herring had six. With the loss, East fell to 14-14 on the season.
The Titans resume district play on Friday when they take on Calhoun in Port Lavaca.
GIRLSCalallen 33, West 26
Calallen shut down the Lady Warriors offense Tuesday night, holding West to just 11 points in the first half as Calallen left Victoria with a 33-26 victory.
While Calallen managed to shut down West's offense, the offense for Calallen managed to score just 15 points in the first half.
Jamiere McBride led West in the seven-point loss with nine points. Kynsey Clark finished with six and Laren Rodriguez had five.
Jachie Trent led Calallen in scoring with 12 points and both Sara Kneip and Emma Athinson scored six.
