Crossroads Independence Day celebrations planned

Several area cities are planning July Fourth celebrations on Thursday and over the weekend.

Thursday

VICTORIA - H-E-B Plus! is hosting its fifth annual Fourth of July Bike, Trike and Wagon Parade at 9 a.m. in the H-E-B Plus! parking lot, 6106 N. Navarro St. For ages 2-12 years, trophies will be awarded for most decorative and creative entries and best in show. Line up begins at 8:30 a.m.; preregister at the store on day of event. Also available are root beer floats, face painting and balloon sculptures.



YORKTOWN - The Yorktown Museum's Ministry Day Camp will have a sidewalk parade for children at 1:30 p.m.

CUERO - Grace Episcopal Church Family Fun Carnival will be 9:45 a.m.-2 p.m. at Cuero Municipal Park. Events include Young Patriots Parade, cake walk, face painting, inflatables, dunking booth, duck pond, fishing, cookie decorating, train rides, country store, watermelon seed spittin' contest, hula hoop contest, egg toss contest, concessions, plant sale, bucket auction and a raffle. Food drive for CAMAL House food bank. Anyone bringing a food item to donate gets a chance at a prize drawing. Admission to the carnival, parade, contests and some activities are free. Tickets for most booths and concessions are 50 cents each, and bucket auction tickets are $1 each. Proceeds will benefit the Grace Episcopal Church Repair and Renovation Fund, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, Habitat for Humanity of Cuero and Keep Cuero Beautiful. That evening: 6-8 p.m. - Tommy Schlein sings Golden Oldies, 9 p.m. - fireworks, all in the park.

GOLIAD - Coleto Creek Park will host the annual July Fourth fireworks display over the reservoir toward the park. Fireworks start at dark, estimated at 9:30 p.m. Park entry for the event is $10 per vehicle.

BAYSIDE - Fourth of July parade and firework show. Parade starts at 4 p.m. and the route goes from First Street to Copano Bay City Park. Potluck is at 5 p.m. with live music throughout the evening with firework show on Gin Road at dusk.

WOODSBORO - Lion's Club Fourth of July parade and celebration parade starts at 10 a.m. The route goes from Woodsboro High School to town square; live music, children's games, food and crafts vendors, live auction and drawing go until 3 p.m. There will be no firework show.

SATURDAY

PORT LAVACA - Port Lavaca Freedom Fest 2013. Events at Bayfront Peninsula Pavilion, 2300 state Highway 35, will be 3 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $20, presale adult tickets; $5, children ages 12 and under; live music, food booths, arts and crafts and lots of family fun. VIP tables available.

POINT COMFORT - The 11th annual Point Comfort Bash at the Bay is sponsored by the city of Point Comfort and the Point Comfort Volunteer Fire Department, beginning 6 p.m. in the city park. A free pool party will be from 6-8:30 p.m. with vendors in the park. Fireworks show will be at dark.

PORT O'CONNOR - Port O'Connor fireworks display will be free at dusk at King Fisher Beach.

EDNA - The Antique Tractor Show at Brackenridge Park & Campground will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Antique Tractor Parade will start at 3 p.m. when the tractors will be driven through the park and campground.

Free parking for the event with tractor show and fireworks available in field across from Harry Hafernick Rec Center.

Friday-Saturday

SHINER - The 34th annual Half Moon Holidays at Green-Dickson Park. On Friday, carnival and dance to DJ music, vendors. Saturday, 10:30 a.m. parade, 5K, 10K, kids run, washer tournament, pie auction, live music starts at 3 p.m. with headliner the Trevor Cole Band at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks at sunset.
