Saturday Sermon: Who is Jesus to you?
Matthew 16:15, "He saith unto them, but whom say ye that I am?" This is the question that is still being asked by the Holy Spirit to the hearts of men today. The same question that was revealed by the Father unto Peter is still the question of the hour to the believer.
Who am I to you, in today's English would be the proper question. Am I the word, the Messiah, the Son of God, or am I just a wonder in the mind of those that say they know me. You see, if He is the word of the living God, then He must be the Messiah (the anointed one) who is God's only begotten Son, Jesus.
Understand that the word "begotten" is to show lineage, this is defined as a direct decent from a particular ancestry. This not only includes Christ Jesus but also all who are born into Him. So should there be any doubt within us as to that which He Himself declares?
That He can do or desires to do for in and with us? Is this a faith chapter? I say not. This is removal of limitations chapter. Faith is already there because the Holy Spirit is faith full, or let's put it this way, He is full of faith.
Act 11:24, "For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. So if we are born of the Spirit, then we are also full of faith for we all have the measure."
You see, He does not come with only a portion of Himself; this we gleaned from previous chapters. When the Bible says in Romans 12:3, "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." We have to understand we are given the same measure of faith as all who are of Him are. He who is in fact the third person of the trinity; who is after all the deposit of the presence and the power of God given to all who are born of His Spirit.
2 Corinthians 1:22, "Who hath also sealed us and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts."
The deposit - who is the Holy Spirit within our hearts - He is the measure of our faith. There are two things we live by in order to please God, but they are in the same person.
Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith, it is impossible to please him: For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Galatians 5:25, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."
To live in the Spirit is to walk in the manifesting faith of the Spirit, for without this walk, we cannot please God. Remember this walking is action so the spiritual life requires action. How is it we are to walk?
2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight. We must believe that He is." That sounds like walking in the Spirit to me. You know it is only the Spirit who knows the deep things of God and reveals them to us.
1 Corinthians 2:10, "But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God."
