Piano students receive state awards
The Texas Music Teachers Association recently awarded medals to piano students of teachers in the Victoria Music Teachers Association for scoring 90 to 100 on a music theory test. Students are from Victoria, Port Lavaca, Cuero and surrounding towns. The test evaluates musical knowledge and application of aural and musicianship concepts.
Students earning gold medals are:
Doreen Luo, Lisa Du, Phoebe Huang, Jeffrey Liu, KaryXu, Allison Zengerle, Benjamin Bian, Haleigh Jenkins, Evan Liu, Isaac Lu, Wesley Ng, Paula Swanson, Gigi Cheng, Amar Hamasagar, Caleb Huang, Joshua Huang, Anne Liu, Spencer Owens, Quinn Ruschhaupt, Angel Tung, Kelly Xu, Kyle Yang, Jessica Zhang, Sophia Zhao, Bea Eamiguel, Hannah Sun, Brady Watson, Christina Benedict, Muriel Cotman, Elizabeth Du, Therese Eamiguel, Prainav Jain, Angelina Vincent, Sean Wolf, Alex Liu, Daniel Shay, Claire Wang, Zoe Ng and Heidi Shay.
Students earning silver medals are:
Andres Archuleta, Sheldon Wolf, Vincent Chen, Crystal Kwi, Anthony Liu, Zoey Lu, Katie Saddler, Katherine Wang, Justin Kung, Jasmine Yang, Audrey Simpson, Teresa Wang, Betsy Gifford and Shahed Nielsen.
Students earning bronze medals are:
Grayson Maples, Holland Bluhm, Presley Bluhm, Olivia Franklin, Mariana Valdivia, Sabrina Bludau, Jason Chen and Mashhood Nielsen.
Teachers with students participating in the test were Eleanor Anderson, Beverly Cheshire, Marguerite DeBolt, Jo Ann Hoffman, Ann Johannsen, Betty Jordan and Beth Waak.
The Texas Music Teachers Association awarded a medal to Muriel Cotman for scoring 100 on the World of Music exam. The statewide exam tests knowledge of music history and appreciation. Muriel is a student of Beverly Cheshire and is a student affiliate member of the Victoria Music Teachers Association.
Amar Hamasagar received an outstanding rating in the Texas Music Teachers Association's publication contest. Music students from throughout the state are judged on their essays on musical subjects according to school grade level. The purpose of the contest is to promote excellence in music research and publications.
Amar's essay will be published in a TMTA book with other winning and outstanding articles. He is also invited to attend the TMTA convention in June for an awards presentation. Amar is a student of Marguerite DeBolt and is a student affiliate member of the Victoria Music Teachers Association.
