Bombers extend Generals losing streak to five games

Victoria Generals fans did have something to cheer about.
Two Generals pitchers each struck out the Beer Batter, giving those who desire a chance to get a cold beverage at a reduced price.
Otherwise, the Generals did very little to lift the crowd's spirits in an 11-2 loss to the Brazos Valley Bombers on Saturday night at Riverside Stadium.
The doldrums continued for Victoria, which has lost five straight games. The Generals are 0-3 in the second half of the season, with all three losses coming at home.
"I feel like we just kind of lost our confidence and having fun playing the game," said David Paiz Jr., who entered the game in the seventh inning and had a double in his only at-bat. "Coach (Stephen Flora) told us there are two aspects, you've got to work hard and have fun. I think we kind of lost the feeling of having fun."
The Bombers were enjoying themselves, as they had 18 hits and scored in seven of the nine innings against three Generals pitchers.
Eight of the nine Brazos Valley starters had hits, seven scored a run, and all nine reached base.
G.R. Hinsley led the way with four hits, and Patrick McLendon had three.
Bryce Rutherford had eight strikeouts and pitched seven innings to pick up his fourth win of the season.
The Generals did very little, getting only four hits and going down in order in four innings.
Victoria's first hit did not come until there were two outs in the third inning. To make matters worse, the Generals had two runners thrown out on the bases in the seventh, which they entered trailing 8-1.
"You've just got to clear your mind," Paiz Jr. said. "Every day is a new day. We've got one more game tomorrow and hopefully we come out and grind and get a win and then we've got a nice three-day break for the all-star game. It's kind of a reset button. We can reset our minds, and reset our bodies and hopefully get things going."
