Extension Agent: Victoria County Master Gardeners host training class
If you enjoy gardening, spending time outdoors or have always wanted to have the best-looking landscape in the neighborhood, then the Master Gardener program may be for you.
The Victoria County Master Gardener Association is a volunteer organization of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
Its members are energetic and highly motivated and provide a service to the people of Victoria and surrounding counties through the countless service projects, educational programs, news columns and through the highly acclaimed Victoria Educational Gardens or "VEG" - not to mention the great social benefits that the members receive.
Master Gardeners share one common trait that brings and keeps them together: their love of gardening. For some, this passion is vegetable gardening. For others, it is colorful blooms and a manicured landscape. Still, others simply enjoy the relaxation of digging in the dirt and taking in the gifts that nature provides.
For more than 15 years, the Victoria County Master Gardener Association and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension have provided in-depth, technical training to individuals who want to learn better gardening techniques and share this knowledge with others in the community. The training program on the road to becoming a Master Gardener is a 16-week course that offers detailed instruction on everything gardening.
The 2013 Fall Master Gardener training class will be each Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 1. Training sessions will provide specific instruction to better your gardening skills.
Those who complete the 16-week training class will be required to give back to the community 50 hours of service over the next year to become Master Gardeners.
Applications for the training class will be accepted at the Victoria County Extension Office until July 18, and applicants who are accepted into the training program will be notified by July 25.
Applications can be picked up at the Victoria County Extension Office or found on the Victoria County Master Gardener website at vcmga.org.
