Victoria Generals pitcher Kyle Keller, right, prepares to tag out East Texas Pump Jacks outfielder Matthew Dickey after Dickey was chased back from second base by Generals infielder J.D. Stinnett, left, and other infielders.

Kyle Keller didn't play in the Texas Colligate League All-Star game Tuesday.

Maybe he should have.

The New Orleans native gave up just three hits in 6 2/3 innings of work and had 10 strikeouts as the Victoria Generals snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the East Texas Pump Jacks.

Keller understood what the situation was prior to his start. Another loss would have put the Generals in a disappointing slump.

However, Keller wouldn't allow that.

With the combination of Keller and first basemen Jace Reese, who went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs, the Generals looked like a team that had secured a spot in the playoffs already.

The All-Star break was time needed for the Generals to rejuvenate. Before the break, they were outmatched and struggled offensively. Thursday, the team looked well rested as they came out with eight hits.

"I've been having some trouble with control the last few starts, and tonight, I just hit the zone, and the results were a lot better," Keller said. "We had a long, six-game losing streak, and we had the all star game to recover."

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning.

Designated hitter Hayden Vesely walked after J.B. Moss grounded out to get a runner on base. Jace Reese, one of the newly added Generals, came up to bat and hit a two-run home run off Pump Jacks pitcher Jordan Price to left field, giving the Generals a 2-0 lead.

The Generals used three pitchers against the Pump Jacks, including Keller, Daniel Tunchez Jr. and Kris Looper. Looper and Tunchez Jr. didn't allow any hits.

"Most of the time, whether its just our offense or just our pitching, but (Thursday), both went well," said head coach Stephen Flora. "I think that three day break helped our guys. We have a lot of young guys and I think that three day break really gave them a lot more energy to come out."

• The Victoria Generals have added shortstop Alvaro Rondon (Texas A&M International) to their roster for the final 26 games of the season. Rondon led his colllege team with a .309 batting average, 23 runs scored, 23 walks and 12 stolen bases.

•  Generals head coach Stephen Flora is out as assistant baseball coach at Wharton County Junior College. After getting passed over on the vacant head coach job that went to Keith Case, Flora resigned from the team.
