"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
- 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV)
Eric from Chem-Dry carpet cleaners came to my house to clean my living room carpet because my granddaughter, Dyanne, who teaches in South Korea, is coming to visit me.
Eric has been cleaning carpets for 30 years, and he should have the skill down by now, but it takes him two hours to clean the living room. He should be gone in 30 minutes, but after two hours, he's still here.
He is finished with the carpet in 30 minutes but then he has to come out to the porch and talk to me.
When he would announce that he was finished with the carpet, I noticed his eyes were sparkling, and I thought it was because he had such pride in his work. He finally admitted that the only reason he works is so that he can afford to go fishing, and only one person in the world likes talking fishing as much as he does, and that is me.
Since I have been his customer faithfully for so long, he was going to tell me a secret. Eric told me about a perfect fishing spot where mullet group together and hang out.
When the bay is green, the redfish have also found their mullet group and feed on them as fast as they can. Eric likes to take his rod and reel, put a hook in one of those mullet and join in.
In no time, he is limited out, has iced them down and is heading toward his freezer.
Then, back to another carpet with tears of joy over seeing his work for the morning.
Dear Lord, thank you for loyalty as in groups of mullet, friends like Eric who will share with you and people like me who won't tell where that fishing spot is because I promised Eric I would not tell. But if you see a lady with a fish hat on, please don't run over her and ruin all the fun.
