Area youth compete for spot in Summer Games of Texas

Nearly a hundred young swimmers from around the Crossroads area came to Victoria on Saturday morning for the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Region 16 swim meet.

The swimmers were competing for a spot in the 2013 TAAF Summer Games of Texas State Swim Meet in Corpus Christi, starting July 25.

Victoria swimmers took first place in 12 of the 37 events, including a one-two-three finish in the Girls 8 and under 25-yard freestyle by Brooke Henry (first place), Kate Wickham and Abigail Sevier.

Victoria also took first and second in the Girls 9/10 25-yard backstroke. Robin Barker finished first, and Callie Edmonds was second.

Saturday's swim meet was for swimmers 10 years or younger. Swimmers 11 years or older will compete Sunday at the Victoria Aquatic Center.

The first heats are set to begin at 10 a.m.

TAAF Region 16 includes swimmers from Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Goliad, Jackson, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio and Victoria counties.
