The Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, has announced that Randy Vivian, president of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, has graduated from the program and has received the recognition of IOM, which signifies the individual's completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management.

James Vanek, CEO of Lavaca Medical Center, was named this year's recipient of the Gordon Russell Award of Merit at the 2013 Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals Annual Conference in Dallas on April 18. This award exists to recognize outstanding achievement by rural and community hospital administrators for their leadership and dedication to the profession.

Tom Stocker has joined NewFirst National Bank as executive vice president and Victoria business banking manager. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1982 with a degree in finance and has been in banking for 30 years.

David Barnhart, vice president, is back at the NewFirst National Bank in Victoria covering the Coastal Bend and Victoria area as a commercial and business banking lender. He had been working in the Houston market for NewFirst and has more than 30 years of banking experience.

Mark Ward Sr., an assistant professor of communication at the University of Houston-Victoria, was competitively selected to present his research at the National Communication Association annual convention this November in Washington, D.C.

Candace Boyd was named the May Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is a student advising coordinator in the UHV School of Arts and Sciences. Boyd has worked for UHV since 2008. She received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.
