Yoakum Community Hospital, a 25-bed facility serving patients since 1922, was named to a national list of "100 Great Community Hospitals" for 2013 by Becker's Hospital Review.

"We focus every day on serving neighbors in Yoakum and the surrounding area as we have for over 90 years," said Karen Barber, chief executive officer of Yoakum Community Hospital.

"I congratulate our leadership, physicians and entire staff for working together to serve the community."

Becker's Hospital Review evaluated hospitals with fewer than 550 beds and minimal teaching programs, many of which are the only hospitals located in their rural communities. Whether independent or part of a larger health system, these hospitals have worked with limited resources to continually provide quality care.

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected community hospitals based on rankings and awards from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), Healthgrades and The Joint Commission. Nominations were also considered.

Yoakum Community Hospital, a designated critical access hospital, provides emergency, labor and delivery, laboratory, physical therapy, radiological and surgical services.

The hospital has improved in recent years with construction of a new medical office building, the addition of digital mammography technology and implementation of an electronic health record system.

The hospital received the 2012 Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Bronze Award, the 2012 Five Star Service Award for Excellence in Vital Registration and achieved 92 percent overall satisfaction in its most recent annual employee survey.

In 2013, the hospital received the Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades. Yoakum Community Hospital is owned by Community Hospital Corp., which provides management services.
