THUMBS-UP

Thumbs-up for the excellent article in Viewpoints on July 12 by Gary Dunnam regarding the Zahn house and the preservation of that historic home.

Marle, Victoria

Thumbs-up for the city of Victoria in getting water next to the Korean War Monument. The officers of chapter 223 had a vision to have a monument in honor of our men that fought in the Korean War. It took a lot of effort to raise the funds for this project. We stand today proud of each one who gave to this monument. We will have a memorial July 27 at the monument at 9 a.m. We invite all veterans and the public to this ceremony. The guest speaker will be Steve Tyler. For more information, call Troy Howard at 575-8343.

Thumbs-up to Governor Rick Perry for making abortion legislation a priority in the second special session of the Texas legislature this year.

J.E., Victoria

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to the people who throw glass bottles onto the sidewalks. I've had to change my bicycle tires several times. Also, thumbs down to the people who park in their yards and block the sidewalk. What's wrong with the driveway and street?

Jessica, Victoria

Thumbs-down to the liberals and progressives of the '60s who wanted less government in their lives and to be able to live more freely. Now, the liberals are all OK with do-gooders in our government who want to control everything!

Roy, Victoria

Thumbs-down to that disarray of Miss Victoria 2013 contestants on the Crossroads page July 11. Surely, there could have been a better design method.

Marle, Victoria

Thumbs way, way down to Governor Rick Perry for waiting more than 11 years until it was beneficial to him politically to make abortion legislation a priority for the Texas legislature.

J.E., Victoria
