LAFAYETTE, La. - The Victoria Generals scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and Juan Cortina shut down the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the bottom half of the inning to hand the Generals their 24th win of the season in an 8-5 win.
After watching the Cane Cutters (28-23) tie the game at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Generals (24-26) loaded the bases with just one out to start the ninth.
J.B. Moss drew a walk on six pitches to score Jace Reese and Alvaro Rondon drove in a pair of runs with a single to center field.
Trey Wall failed to pick up the decision, but pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks. Cortina (3-0) pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one run on one hit and had one strikeout.
It was Cortina's twin brother, Romeo, who drew first blood Tuesday night.
Romeo Cortina added to his team-leading home run total with a solo blast in the first inning. It was his eighth of the season.
However, the Cane Cutters took the lead with two runs scored in the third inning.
After four scoreless innings, the Generals were able to load the bases with two outs when Jordan Camel came to the plate. Camel saw four pitches before hitting his grand slam home run over the right field wall. The slam gave the Generals a 5-2 lead.
But the Cane Cutters responded with a two-run home run and an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
