College Q&A: UHV to give away tickets, prizes at June 11 Victoria Generals game
What is the University of Houston-Victoria's 40th anniversary event?
With the 2013 Victoria Generals season now underway, the University of Houston-Victoria is excited to step up to the plate to present a free evening of baseball to the community as part of its 40th anniversary celebration.
The first Free Ticket Tuesday of the season is presented by UHV on June 11 when the Generals host the Acadiana Cane Cutters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Riverside Stadium.
Fans coming out to the summer collegiate game will receive an assortment of UHV giveaways at the gate. Special prizes also will be awarded to fans throughout the game.
As an added bonus, those in attendance before the game will get to experience a firsthand sampling of the singing and athletic talents from their hometown university.
A UHV representative will sing the national anthem. Kari Lambeth, UHV softball coach, will throw out the first pitch. Lambeth's Jaguar team won 32 games and the AII Conference Tournament this past season.
Fans seeking in-game refreshments can purchase a soft drink from the concession stand, which will come in a free UHV souvenir cup. This stylish cup could someday be a collectible, and it's filled with your favorite beverage. It's clearly a win-win.
Speaking of winning, the Generals did a lot of that last season, making it to the Texas Collegiate League Championship Series. The team could be in for another successful season in 2013.
Blake Koch, the Victoria Generals vice president and general manager, has brought in several top players from South Texas and beyond. The roster includes Victoria native Daniel Tunchez Jr., a senior pitcher for Eastfield College in Mesquite.
The game is part of UHV's 40th anniversary celebration. The university is holding a series of events to commemorate 40 years and has introduced a new mascot, broken ground on a new residence hall and launched a 40th anniversary website at 40th.uhv.edu.
Throughout the Generals' season, UHV also is sponsoring between-innings contests on the field. Participants will be chosen from the stands to compete, and the winner will receive a UHV-themed prize.
Please join us for an entertaining night of baseball June 11. Pick up your free tickets by visiting the kiosk on the first floor of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St., during normal business hours.
You can also get tickets at the Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau or the City of Victoria Public Information office, 702 N. Main St. The CVB and the Public Information office are in 700 Main Center, where many residents go to pay their city water bills.
