If you "dig history," then you are totally going to dig an upcoming event being coordinated by the Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the Museum of the Coastal Bend and Victoria Preservation Inc.

Dig Our History Days is a free community event that is scheduled June 14-17 in Victoria's historic downtown.

Numerous fun, hands-on activities are planned, including a paticipatory archaeology dig project at De Leon Plaza. The archaeology dig will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day of the event.

There will also be a myriad of other activities for all ages to enjoy, including atlatl throwing on the grounds of One O'Connor Plaza; walking tours of historic downtown Victoria from Market Square to De Leon Plaza and of La Villa Victoria; a guided historic driving tour of Old Victoria; guided tours of Evergreen Cemetery and the Victoria County Courthouse; horse-drawn carriage rides at De Leon Plaza; Bluegrass, oldies and Gospel music by the Crossroads String Band at the De Leon Plaza bandstand; archeology exhibits, lectures and historic films at the Welder Center; archeology for kids at De Leon Plaza and children's activities at the Children's Discovery Museum and the Nave Museum; and a children's movie and coloring activity at the Victoria Public Library.

Both the Museum of the Coastal Bend and the Nave Museum will offer free admission during the event. The Museum of the Coastal Bend, at the corner of Ben Jordan and Red River streets on the Victoria College campus, will have free admission June 14 and 15. The Nave Museum will offer free admission and tours of the museum June 14-16 and in addition to children's activities will have docents available to talk about the history of the McCan family and the Nave.

The only thing that is not free during the event is food, beverages and a variety of historic books, toys and trinkets available for sale at the Dig Our History Days shopping area.

Several downtown restaurants will be open throughout the event offering food and beverages, so please plan to visit them when you attend Dig Our History Days.

Concessions will also be available at the Welder Center throughout the event.
