Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 31

El Charrito Express No. 2, 623 Broadway St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 33. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands in between tasks. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Discard any food kept in cooler over four hours out of temperature. Date-label food with a seven-day use-by date. Refrigerator in unit not holding at 41 degrees or below. Do not store items in the hand sink. Address problem with flies. Manager did not demonstrate knowledge. Permit suspended until cooler holds at 41 degrees or below. Need to install light shields. Three facility or equipment violations.

Texas Seafood Restaurant, 2202 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 25. Wash hands at hand sink only. Keep all personal items out of food preparation area. Cover food in the walk-in cooler. Raw meats should be stored below other food. Keep time documented on rice kept out at room temperature. Need paper towels at back hand sink. All dishes must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Clean the ice machine. Three facility or equipment violations.

Dragon Palace, 5223 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 22. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Cover food in all coolers. Do not store food directly in thank-you bags. Must use food-approved bags. Do not store raw meat beside vegetables. Keep time documented on food kept out at room temperature. Address problem of rodent droppings. Replace the cracked lids on storage bins. Two facility or equipment violations.

Diamond Market, 1202 N. Ben Wilson St., Victoria. Demerits: 20. Ice bags need labels. Dispose of expired canned goods and medicine. Wipe down shelving. Repair sink that will not drain. Repair the three-compartment sink. Three facility or equipment violations.

Four Season's Restaurant, 1005 N. Virginia St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 18. Cover all food in the coolers. Date-label the potentially hazardous foods in cooler with a seven-day use-by date. Need hot water at mop sink. Clean the droppings that are in the storage area. Wipe down all food contact surfaces. Two facility or equipment violations.

China B, 3611 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 18. Wash hands between tasks. Do not store meat directly in thank-you bags. Cover all food in the coolers. Store raw chicken below other food. Do not store raw chicken with raw beef. Need to label sanitizer buckets. One facility or equipment violation.

Diamond Mini Mart, 3602-A Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 17. Label the bags of ice. Deli sandwiches need dates. Keep items out of hand sink. Need hand soap in restroom. Need soap and paper towels at hand sink. Clean the ice machine and ice dispenser. Store pickle tongs and ice scoop on a clean, sanitized surface. Need a cover for trash can in restroom. Three facility or equipment violations.

Best Western Inn, 2202 N. state Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 15. Improper cold-hold temperature. Dispose of any potentially hazardous foods that have been in cooler more than four hours such as the milk. Only the refrigerator in kitchen is not holding at 41 degrees. Need paper towels at the hand sink. One facility or equipment violation.

Denny's Restaurant, 7601 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Improper cold-hold temperature. Mark times on items in cooler. Label the sanitizer buckets. One facility or equipment violation.

Paletera La Salud, 602 W. Main St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 10. Need to wash hands before glove use. Container at hand sink needs to be removed; hand sink not accessible. Must not use pellets for pest control. Recommend using traps. Two facility or equipment violations.

Tequila Ville, 1800 S. state Highway 35, Suite B, Port Lavaca. Demerits: Need cold water at the three-compartment sink. Need soap and paper towels at the hand sink. Clean the ice machine. Two facility or equipment violations.

Yoli's Chill-N-Grill, 45 Second St., Bloomington. Demerits: 8. Improper cold-hold temperature. Cooler not holding at 41 degrees.

Chuck E. Cheese's, 7800 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Improper cold-hold temperature. Label all spray bottles. One facility or equipment violation.

Dick's Crestwood Food Store LTD, 1302 E. Crestwood Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 8. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Dispose of out-of-date medications.

M and M Pinto Bean No. 2, 202 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Improper cold-hold temperature. They have adjusted to make it colder; they turn it down at night because it freezes over night.

Schlotzsky's Deli, 4601 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Need to date-label foods.

Buffet City, 9104 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Store raw meat below other food. Do not store utensils in between tabletops.

Church's Fried Chicken No. 3172, Victoria. Demerits: 6. Address problem with flies. Need to label all spray bottles. Two facility or equipment violations.

The Auction Ring Cafe, 1817 Bridge St., Cuero. Demerits: 5. Improper cold-hold temperature.

Black Gold Inn, 207 state Highway 77-A N., Yoakum. Demerits: 5. Improper cold-hold temperature. Need a hand-washing sign in restroom.

Venecia's Bar and Grill, 1708 W. Main St., Port Lavaca, inspected May 8 with 27 demerits. Reinspected May 29 with most violations corrected. Kitchen OK to reopen.

Baytown Seafood Restaurant, 4010 Houston Highway, Victoria, inspected May 20 with 12 demerits. Reinspected May 29 with continued problem with cold-hold temperature. Will return to recheck.

Chili's Bar and Grill, 5004 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected April 22 with 12 demerits. Reinspected May 23 with dishwasher still needs repair. Will call when fixed.
