Greg Crockett's wardrobe will get a little greener this summer as he begins his new post as Cuero Junior High School's new principal.

Crockett, 50, announced his resignation as principal for Victoria East High School earlier this week to the school's faculty and staff.

"I still believe I will always be a Titan, even though I'm excited about the new opportunity I've been given," Crockett said. "I still have friends (in Victoria), and I'll keep in touch with them."

The current principal at Cuero Junior High School, Donnie Garrison, resigned last month with plans to re-enter retirement, said James Haley, Cuero school district superintendent.

"Donnie had a very successful career," Haley said. "We're honoring him on Friday to show our appreciation."

This won't be Crockett's first time working at the junior high school.

Crockett served as principal for Cuero Junior High from 2001 to 2003 before taking a position at Memorial High School, where he later became principal in 2007.

"Cuero was my first principal job," Crockett said. "It's always been a goal of mine to return to Cuero."

Crockett will make $75,000 under a one-year contract at his new job, Haley said.

A Victoria school district high school principal makes between $80,463.20 and $117,040.10, according to the district's 2012-13 pay scales posted on their website.

Despite the pay cut, Crockett said he's excited about the move.

"I love Victoria East, but it's time for a change, and I'm looking forward to this challenge," Crockett said. "The adjustment will be fast."

After his appointment was approved, Crockett said he was given a green Gobblers' cap as congratulations.

"I'm very excited about the appointment," Haley said. "He was very well thought of and respected when he worked here previously."

Haley said the board emphasized Crockett's strength as an instructional leader during the consideration, and he was highly recommended by VISD.

Crockett was among seven applicants for the Cuero Junior High School position, the superintendent said.
